Learn acrylic and oil painting techniques using nauticals as inspiration!

This introductory painting course is suitable for anyone looking to take their first steps in acrylic and oil painting. Using seascapes, fish and marine life as inspiration participants will explore drawing and painting techniques in acrylic and oil glazing.

* This course is suitable for absolute beginners


Day 1: Drawing techniques using charcoal and coloured pastels inspired by marine life (fish, jelly fish, octopus etc)

Day 2: Painting from a photograph – Acrylic painting techniques

Day 3 and Day 4: Seascape painting using inspiration images and photographs – Oil painting techniques

September 23rd – October 21st (4x sessions)

Wednesdays 6pm – 8pm

Location: Online Workshop (Zoom link will be emailed to you)



The sessions will be hosted through Zoom.

Please download the Zoom app. If you haven’t zoomed before don’t worry, it’s not complicated. A little blue camera symbol will pop up on your phone, pad and laptop.

You’ll find the Zoom link for the sessions on the booking ticket AND I will send you the link via email that will take you directly to the sessions (no password required) on the day of the workshop.

I will start the session 15mins before the official start of the workshop. This will give us an opportunity to iron out any technical difficulties if there are any and have a chat 🙂



You’ll need a few basic materials for the course:

  • Inspiration images – marine creatures and seascape photos

Drawing Materials

  • Charcoal
  • Coloured chalk pastels
  • Paper
  • Board (so support your paper)
  • Eraser
  • Paper towels / tissue


Painting Materials

  • Acrylic paints (all primary colours plus black and white)
  • Oil Paints
  • Brushes (variety of sizes)
  • Large brush for priming canvas
  • 2x Canvas (A4 or bigger)
  • Palette knives
  • Tape
  • Palettes – Paper plates for acrylics or plastic lids would work / Glass surface for oils (can be on old frame)
  • Turpentine or substitute
  • Linseed Oil
  • Rags or newspaper to wipe brushes
  • Comfortable old clothes to work in


  • Easel
  • Table cloth to protect table
